Here is part of the provenance----"The bottles were recovered from the Pumonkey River in Virginia in the area that is now known as Cumberland Landing. The landing is in New Kent County and has been called Cunberland Plantation and the town of Cumberland. The county clerks office burned in 1787 and the records were lost so, the information on the area is sketchy and I have seen conflicting dates of events." The area had English explorers in the early 1600. I once found dates relating to the landing as follows: 11640 explored,1644 settled, 1654 incorporated, and 1748 vvoted on as the capital of Va (failed)----."
